9/7 Peralada Castel Festival: music in summer nights in Costa Brava

Summer cultural events extend beyond the city of Barcelona. A clear example of that statement is the Festival Castell de Peralada (Peralada Castel International Music Festival), hailed as one of the most emblematic Catalan summer festival. From July 11 to August 16 it offers a schedule of more than 20 performances, including opera, classic ballet, dance, symphony concerts, chamber music and innovative performances by artists and groups of international prestige. Every July and August the gardens of the Peralada Castle, in the beautiful Empordà region, become the backdrop for the Peralada Castle International Music Festival.

Music is one of the protagonists of the Festival of Peralada, with proposals of various styles: the Caribbean music of Buena Vista Social Club Orchestra, which will do his last performance with the presence of Omara Portuondo; the soul of the dance-music diva Gloria Gaynor or consolidated national artists like Rosario.

Lyric is one of the others main features of its 28th edition, with the presence of the most acclaimed tenor of the moment, Jonas Kaufmann. When it comes to dance, it should be noted that the Flamenco dancer Sara Baras will be one of the artists for Peralada Festival 2014. She will show a Greek tragedy as a Flamenco performance. Ballet will have its space also, with two shows by two British companies.

This festival, held since 1987, has become the epicenter of Costa Brava culture and leisure summer venues because of the quality of its programming and unique landscape where it is celebrated. It is an experience for summer nights that music lovers know is not to be missed. Further to music and shows, take advantage of the summer months to get to know this historic medieval village in the heart of Costa Brava, located 8km from Figueres and less than 2 hours from Barcelona.
